"Be a Part of the Conversation" Drug & Alcohol Parent Discussion

To register for the event, please visit

NPSD, in partnership with the Montgomery County Office of Drug & Alcohol, is hosting an important discussion on drug and alcohol use that is geared toward parents of elementary age students. The evening event will help parents talk to their children about substance abuse. It will be held on Tuesday, May 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Educational Services Center, located at 401 E. Hancock Street in Lansdale.

The presentation is part of a campaign called Be a Part of the Conversation, which addresses substance use, misuse and addiction and its impact on individuals and their families by building a culture of awareness and support. Be a Part of the Conversation was created in the spring of 2011 in the Hatboro-Horsham School District with the support of community members and area professionals. In an effort to raise awareness about the effects of alcohol and other drug use, school and community leaders came together to form a new initiative.

The program is focused toward parents of students in elementary school. NPSD elementary leaders believe that now is the time to talk with students about drugs and alcohol. At the event on May 2, discussion topics lead by NPSD staff and community members will include the reality of when and how kids are introduced to substances, how to have a conversation with kids at various ages and what to do if parents suspect that their children are experimenting.
