Applying for Free or Reduced-Priced Meals

We encourage families to still apply now for free and reduced price meals, even though all our meals are currently free of charge. Your application will be valid for the entire 2020-2021 school year.
Low-income children are eligible to receive reduced-price or free meals at school. Children in households with incomes below 130 percent of the poverty level or those receiving SNAP or TANF qualify for free meals. Those with family incomes between 130 and 185 percent of the poverty line qualify for reduced-price meals. We encourage all families to apply for free or reduced-price meals. Applications are accepted year-round. Once a family is qualified, they will keep their status for the entire school year. If sudden events occur that impact a family’s income, applications can be filled out at any time.

Pandemic-Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) Information

*All PEBT cards are sent by the Department of Human Services and are mailed to households.
The federal Families First Coronavirus Response Act of 2020 provided temporary benefits, referred to as P-EBT, to families of school-aged children who would have received free or reduced-price meals through the USDA National School Lunch Program (NSLP) if school had not been affected during the COVID-19 pandemic. These benefits were issued in late Spring/Summer of 2020.
A second issuance of P-EBT was authorized by Congress for the 2020-2021 school year. This second issuance will provide the equivalent monetary amount for school breakfast, lunch, and snack to families of students who are enrolled in schools participating in the NSLP but are not attending in person due to COVID-19.

  • To be eligible for P-EBT a student must qualify for free or reduced priced meals through direct certification or online application at Families can apply at any time throughout the school year.
  • Children whose families already receive SNAP or TANF benefits will receive P-EBT benefits on the household's regular EBT card, if possible. Parents can check card balances at or calling 1-888-328-7366.
  • P-EBT eligible students who do not currently receive SNAP or TANF benefits will receive their benefits on a white card marked with "Pennsylvania" on the front. These cards will be mailed to households. All students will receive a new card on their fist issuance for the 2020-21 school year, even if they received a P-EBT card during the 2019-20 P-EBT issuance. Each student will receive a card.
  • Families can still pick up the North Penn SNS curbside meal bundles even if they receive P-EBT benefits.
  • Families can visit the DHS website for an information video and additional guidance HERE.
  • Additional resources can also be found at Food Research and Action Center website located HERE and the Just Harvest website HERE.
