Dear 2nd Grade Families,
This school year, North Penn School District is implementing a universal screener to assess one of the multiple factors that are used to determine eligibility for gifted services. The universal screening assessment being used provides a nonverbal, culturally neutral assessment of general ability that is ideal for use with a diverse student population.
During the week of March 9th, 2nd grade students will complete the NNAT3, which is an acronym for the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test®. This is a brief, nonverbal measure of general intellectual ability that yields a norm-based score. The NNAT3 has no verbal content, it consists of geometric shapes that are universal, and its directions are pictorial with minimal verbal instructions in order to make it accessible to a wide variety of students. Furthermore, the NNAT3 does not require the student to read, write, or speak. Testing will be done in an online format and takes approximately 30 minutes to administer. The screener will be administered by each of the 2nd grade classroom teachers.
This screener is a brief snapshot of ability and measures only some of your child’s skills. Please know that this is just one piece of data that school staff will review to determine if further assessment is necessary in planning for your child's educational program.
Please feel free to reach out should you have any questions regarding this screener.
Sincerely,
Pamula Hart, Ph.D
Director of Elementary Education
