The North Penn School District (NPSD) is proud to welcome the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus for a free concert open to the public on Thursday, October 24 at 7:00 pm at North Penn High School (NPHS) in the Audion.
All are welcome for an evening of acceptance, inspiration and incredible music. The concert is part of the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus’ (PGMC) Youth Outreach Program. The PGMC’s youth outreach program is central to the chorus’ mission. In 2014, the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus partnered with community organizations to perform outreach concerts in local schools, fostering understanding and personal growth in our teenage audiences. Since then, PGMC has reached over 13,000 students at dozens of local high schools and universities. The group continues to support the LGBTQ+ community and empower young people by providing them with an opportunity to enter into a safe and affirming environment free from the threat of harm regardless of how they self-identify.
The PGMC’s visit aligns with the Central Pennsylvania LGBT Center’s display of the Long Road exhibit coming to NPSD for three weeks in October. The Long Road to LGBTQ+ Equality in Pennsylvania is a traveling history exhibit that chronicles the efforts that activists have undertaken in Pennsylvania to achieve full equality for LGBTQ+ people. It uses case studies of several cities and townships to highlight not just the political struggles, but the personal stories as well. This Long Road exhibit tells these stories through historical narrative, photographs and video of oral history first person accounts of activists involved in the struggles to achieve protection from discrimination.
Community members are invited to enjoy an inspirational performance by the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus and visit the Long Road exhibit at North Penn High School (1340 Valley Forge Rd. Lansdale, PA 19446) on Thursday, October 24 at 7:00 pm.
