The North Penn School District (NPSD) is adding Bus Patrol technology to school buses transporting students. Bus Patrol is a stop-arm enforcement program that is available at no cost to the district. The program raises awareness of safety at school bus stops and assists law enforcement in finding violators.

Bus Patrol is a system approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation that helps enforce the stop-arm on school buses that drivers must comply with. The program mounts cameras on the bus exterior and stop-arm to better capture violators and provide information to law enforcement. Bus Patrol is provided to schools at no cost and is entirely funded by fees from stop-arm violations.

Cameras will also cover the interior of the bus to ensure the safety of all students, and to allow administration to respond quickly to a behavioral incident inside the bus. The cameras provide state-of-the-art quality footage that is accessible to North Penn Transportation Office Staff and North Penn Administrators.

“Adding Bus Patrol technology to our school buses will create a safer route for every student in the district,” said Dennis Ryan, Coordinator of Transportation. ‘The program will act as a deterrent to violators who know they will be caught, and those who do violate are less likely to do so again when they are hit with penalties.”

The NPSD Board of School Directors approved the use of Bus Patrol technology at the February action meeting, and installation will begin on North Penn buses shortly. For more information about Bus Patrol, please visit https://buspatrol.com/.
