The North Penn School District (NPSD) Board of School Directors signed a resolution in support of the RISE Act at the last Action meeting, held March 16, 2023 at the Towamencin Township Building.
The Respond, Innovate, Succeed, and Empower (RISE) Act would be an amendment to the Higher Education Act (HEA) and help to ease the transition from high school to college for students with disabilities. Currently, students with disabilities need to provide their own documentation as proof of disability when entering an institute of higher education. Under the RISE Act, students would be able to continue using their documentation provided by their local school district.
“It is unfair and unacceptable for families and students with disabilities to have this burden placed on them to receive accommodations when they enter college,” said Jonathan Kassa, Board Director. “We urge Congress to pass the RISE Act and ensure all students receive the same unhindered opportunities to reach their full potential.”
